Sun protection clothing is for sports and leisure

As the niche markets emerged, so did the companies manufacturing different types of sun protection clothing and accessories. We now have clothing specifically designed for men, women and children of all ages, as well as for different activities.

Sun protection clothing was originally targeted to children in Australia. In the United States, it is selling well to new parents and “baby boomers” alike. We are becoming very aware of sun damage and reacting to it. We are spending more time outdoors, not only working outdoors, but watching and participating in sports.

We now have the luxury of finding sun-protection clothing for just about any sporting activity, from golf and tennis to rock climbing and kayaking. Athletes are very discerning consumers and are continually pushing the technology forward.

Sun protection clothing is being made for a wide range of reasons.

Now you can find specific sun protection clothing for just about any activity in our shopping guide:

Fitness - Designed for extra cooling during strenuous sporting activities.

Even Justin Timberlake knows how to cover-up when out for a run.

Beach and Resort - Designed for extra comfort in the summer heat and humidity.

Watersports - Specifically designed for use, near and in the water, with a bit more coverage than that "ity, bity bikini". Find out more about UV protective swim and water gear here.

Sun Sensitivity – Many doctors will prescribe sun protective clothing for those who have sun allergies, skin cancer, Lupus and other auto-immune diseases.

Outdoor Worker - A lightweight, long sleeve work shirt will not only protect you from the sun, but with wicking properties, you’ll stay cooler than in that old ratty tee.

Casual/Everyday wear – Everything from button downs and blouses to dress pants and dresses. This is a low-maintenance, easy way to obtain everyday sun protection.

Gardening - Even if you garden in the very early morning, you’ll need a wide rim hat and high collared shirt to protect the back of your neck from the sun’s rays.

Travel – It’s easy care fabrics, you can wash by hand and will dry really quickly. There is nothing better than a light weight, loose fitting safari shirt with lots of pockets for the HOT SUN of Africa, (So my parents tell me).

Hats – Wide brimmed hats or hats with neck drapes provide the best protection. Sorry, but your baseball cap just doesn’t cut it. Remember the little ones - Infants and Children are especially susceptible to early sun damage and need the most protection. Learn more about protecting your kids here:
